English Premier League Teams summer 22/23 transfer business part 2

In the second part we are going to grade the Premier League teams from 1 to 10 on their summer transfer business

We will cover the second set of 10 teams in alphabetical order

Leicester City – 1

There is clearly financial issues at the club and previous spending on players who haven’t worked out is now showing up.

2 players in – Alex Smithies on a free and Wout Faes as a replacement for Fofana

To be fair the only lost 2 main players but Kasper Schmeichel will be a huge loss and Fofana was a shambolic transfer, the only upside being the hugely inflated price Chelsea paid for him

A long season ahead for Leicester

Liverpool – 3

Not a lot of business done here with Darwin Núñez and Fábio Carvalho being the main signings

Darwin Núñez looks like a massive overspend, he will score goals but the big thing is will he match Sadio Mane’s output.

They got rid of a few fringe players but Sadio Mane is a huge blow, a game winner for Liverpool on his own.

After a midfield injury crisis they have signed Arthur Melo on loan – a sensible signing with little risk.

Manchester City – 9

They needed a goal scorer and boy did they get one, laughably after the Community Shield people doubted Haaland

The key signings were Erling Haaland, Kalvin Phillips , Sergio Gómez and Manuel Akanji

A few players were sold to bring in money that balanced these transfers out. The squad still looks very strong

Erling Haaland is an obvious stand out, with the amount of chances that City create who knows the amount of goals he may get – 30 or 40, its possible.

Manchester United – 4

A shambolic effort – they had a list of targets and messed about with Frenkie De Jong for most of the window

The main signings were Tyrell Malacia, Christian Eriksen , Lisandro Martínez, Casemiro and Antony

All of the above go straight into the first team but the did massively over pay for Martínez and Antony

The biggest issues came about off the field – one day no money for transfers, the next day hundreds of millions that sum up a club that’s recruitment strategy is abysmal

Newcastle United – 5

The mega bucks team up until the last days of the window

The key signings they made were Matt Targett, Nick Pope, Sven Botman and Alexander Isak

Nick Pope is a great signing as goalkeeper, Botmand and Isak look very good players. Think they overspent on Isak.

You just expect the owners or people with money to unleash the cash – maybe waiting their time.

Nottingham Forest – 7

A staggering amount of players in – 20, they did need to sign a lot as the squad that got promoted was poor and full of loan players.

Jesse Lingard looks like money wasted, even its a free but 120000 a week. Bit of a gamble that even if it is a 1 season deal.

Morgan Gibbs-White, Emmanuel Dennis, Neco Williams, Taiwo Awoniyi, Omar Richards and Lewis O’Brien

Its seems to many players, how long will it take to find their best team. Might be a gamble

Southampton – 6

I’ll be honest I do not know a lot about a lot of players

They signed 4 Man City academy players based on an ex Man City coach now being at Southampton

Tottenham Hotspur – 6

A few signings made as below

Ivan Perišić, Fraser Forster, Yves Bissouma, Richarlison , Djed Spence and Cristian Romero

Perišić on loan is a good squad player as is Fraser Forster. Yves Bissouma was a good player at Brighton and they got him for a good price.

Richarlison seemed expensive at 60 million but can score goals and is another option up front.

A lot of fringe players were also sent out on loan

West Ham United – 7

A pretty good window with a number of signings in various positions

Alphonse Areola , Gianluca Scamacca, Maxwel Cornet, Thilo Kehrer ,Emerson Palmieri and Lucas Paquetá

Maxwel Cornet is a bargain at 17 million, Alphonse Areola is a solid keeper

Emerson Palmieri and Lucas Paquetá both look like solid additions to the squad.

Wolverhampton Wanderers – 5

Odd window, lots of players sold and some random players brought in

Hwang Hee-chan, Nathan Collins, Gonçalo Guedes, Matheus Nunes and Saša Kalajdžić

Nathan Collins is solid enough but they sent COnor Coady out on loan – strange.
