6 goalkeepers who scored goals as well

When you think of goal scoring goalkeepers you probably picture a keeper coming up for a corner and nodding one in th enet or maybe a long punted clearance but in fact many keepers have scored many goals due to them taking free kicks and penalties

These are not the top scorers but some keepers that drew our interest

Rogério Ceni – 131 Goals

Only played for São Paulo but has many records for a goalscoring keeper

Record for a goalkeeper, record number of free kicks, record number of penalties, record number of club goals.

Scored 14 goals in Copa Libertadores and 65 in Brazilian League.Had five matches with two goals.

José Luis Chilavert 67

An eccentric goalkeeper with a fiery temperament, he managed to net 67 times

He scored 8 international goals for Paraguay which is a record, he was the first goalkeeper to score a hat trick.

Some of his free-kicks were crackers and I urge you to find the one from past the half way line on Youtube – remarkable

Jorge Campos – 46

Yep, the goalkeeper famous for the load and colourful shirts he designed himself score 46 goals.

This is interesting as he was actually an outfield player – he would start a game in goal, and transfer upfield later in the match, mostly for club teams.

In total, he scored 35 goals throughout his career, scoring all but one while playing for UNAM in Mexico

René Higuita – 43.

Another keeper who can be described as eccentric, if anyone has ever seen his scorpion kick while playing for Colombia you will know what I mean.

Higuita became known for scoring directly from free-kicks, as well as penalties

Higuita was also a regular for the Colombian national team in the 1990s, making 68 appearances and scoring three goals.

Hans-Jörg Butt – 33

These were all penalties.

He has the record number of penalty goals in a single professional league of Europe with 26 in the Bundesliga and you can also throw in three goals in UEFA Champions League and a few others in other competitions.

Peter Schmeichel –  11

The Great Dane managed to score 11 goals in total.

The majority of these were in Denmarka t club level where he scored 6 for Hvidovre and 2 were for Brøndby.

His most famous was this one for Aston VIlla in a 3–2 defeat away to Everton on 20 October 2001
