In this article we look at Man Uniteds team that played last season and see if they should keep, sell or whether the players should leave as they are out of contract.
Some already have.
Players
Dean Henderson – Sell
A very good and capable keeper, Man United could easily command a 30 million fee and re-invest in the squad. From a personal point of view he probably feels he should be the first choice at a club, plenty of teams could do with a new keeper. The time is right.
David de Gea – Keep
Saved countless amount of points in a dismal season for Man United, long term may need replaced as not that convinced with him with the ball at his feet and will he fit in the Ten Haag system.
Tom Heaton – Keep
A perfectly able backup who can play in cup games and cover for injuries
Raphaël Varane- keep
The best defender at Man United in my opinion but with injury issues. Keep him fit and he is the best at the club by a long way.
Harry Maguire – keep
Might be controversial but I say keep, remove the captaincy from him and get the keeper to come out for more balls over the top. Less pressure on him and less exposed to his lack of pace, see if that improves his performances and if not sell him next season.
Victor Lindelöf – keep
Can be decent as a backup, keep for now. Other positions are more important
Eric Bailly – Sell
Can raise a few quid and sell, so the money can be reinvested in other positions in the squad.
Phil Jones – Sell
Needs to move on, could do a job but I’m not even convinced he is EPL standard now. Perhaps a championship team looking to get promoted or that are nearly there
Luke Shaw – Keep
Other positions are more important, so keep but the injuries are a concern
Alex Telles – Keep
Same as Luke Shaw, other positions are more important but that position may need sorted out next season.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka – Sell
Still a sell able asset so I say sell him, he is a decent defender but going forward is woeful at times. I think sell him to a more defensive team and he would be a success, just not Man United
Diogo Dalot – Keep
Replace Wan-Bissaka an keep him as a bench player – Why, I really don’t think you get much money for him
Scott McTominay – Sell
Simply not good enough for Man United, should have been sold. Not got the talent or ability in the position he plays. Hence Man U tend to play him and Fred = 2 players in the one position.
Nemanja Matić – Leaving
Should have been freed anyway but is out of contract. Still good enough for a team but not mobile enough for the EPL and cannot last the full 90 minutes.
Paul Pogba – Leaving
If he wasn’t leaving then a definite sell. Does not come over as a team player for Man Utd, frequently ‘injured’ and seems to be spend more time on social media than anything else. A luxury player who fits in well at a slower paced league or when he has ball winning midfielders prepared to graft for him like in the French national team.
Fred – Keep
I’m saying keep as a squad/bench player. Not the worst but not that great either.
Bruno Fernandes – Keep
A genuinely top player who in his first season was tremendous, this season has been very poor. Like many players seems unsettled but is an asset and hopefully th enew manager can get him back to his best.
Jesse Lingard – Leaving
Should have sold him last year, leaving anyway. Looks like he hasn’t been interested, the fact he played any games was pretty remarkable.
Hannibal Mejbri – Keep/Loan
If they get enough players in, then loan him put to get matches and experience
Juan Mata – Leaving
I believe he is leaving, if not he should have been sold or freed anyway. Need to look for younger and more mobile players.
Jadon Sancho – Keep
A great winger who with better coaching and team will deliver the goods.Still a young talent, so keep and hope for better next season.
Marcus Rashford – Sell
For whatever reason does not seem to be settled now, performances have been poor for a while now. Lets be honest if he wasn’t English he would be hammered. I think Man United should sell, raise money and buy better
Anthony Elanga – Keep
Has played OK but was really played when he wasn’t ready. Needs more game time next season, cups and sub appearances.
Shola Shoretire – Keep/Loan
If they get enough players in, then loan him put to get matches and experience
Cristiano Ronaldo – Keep
Amazing return and points won in a very poor team, with poor coaching. A few better players in the team and he will still be an asset. Not sure he fits in with the way Ten Haag plays though, that might be an issue but I would always keep this guy – even if to inspire some of the young players
Edinson Cavani – Leaving
Out of contract, would have been one on the transfer list anyway.
Others
Of course some players were on loan elsewhere
Anthony Martial – Sell
Might still get say 10 million for him, so sell
Andreas Pereira – Sell
Don’t think he is good enough so sell
Amad Diallo – Keep/Loan
Was poor for Rangers on loan, try another loan
Facundo Pellistri – Keep/Loan
Young player, another loan season
Brandon Williams – Keep/Loan
Did not really work out at Norwich, another loan out more than likely
Donny van de Beek – Keep
Will finally get a chance to see what he can do under Ten Haag. Hopefully for the player and Man Utd that will get him back to his best.
James Garner – Keep/Loan
Looks a talent but cannot see him starting games, another loan maybe to an EPL club this time.
Axel Tuanzebe – Keep/Loan
Did not really work out at Napoli, another loan out more than likely
Teden Mengi – Keep/Loan
Young player, another loan season
Tahith Chong – Keep/Loan
Young player, another loan season
