A look at some of Evertons poor signings of the years

In this article we look at some of Evertons transfer business over the years, which can be summarized as woeful. If your an Everton fan you might want to leave, this is not pleasant reading

For the record this is just a sample of the players Everton have signed for over £10 million pounds – 24 I reckon and counting , a couple have succeeded – Lukaku and Richarlison and they made money when sold and the jury is still out on other. This lot below, wow.

I make it 230 million on these 9 players not including wages, astounding when you think about it.

Players

Jean-Philippe Gbamin – £25 million

Who – He has only managed 6 appearances since 2019, thats correct, 6.

Very unlucky with injuries, suffering countless setbacks.

Wen’t to CSKA Moscow on loan. On 19 May 2022, CSKA confirmed that Gbamin will leave the club upon the expiration of his loan term, he played 11 times and is back at Everton

Cenk Tosun – £27 million

He was a prolific scorer in Turkish football for Gaziantepspor and then Besiktas, before Everton signed him.

Always going to be a gambel and 9 goals in 50 games was not a great return

Back at Besiktas on loand and then after being freed by Everton – £27 million for 9 goals.

Moise Kean – £24 million

He had only played 16 games for Juventus but with 7 goals albeit this is Juventus a their peak.

Played 32 games scoring 2 and had disciplinary issues – then offloaded back to Juve for an inital 7 million with an obligation to buy in summer 2023 for a reported €28 million plus €3 million in add-ons

ANother disaster of a transfer but at least they may recoup the money.

Davy Klaassen – £23 million

A tremendous player for Ajax, 126 appearances with 44 goals. A great return for a midfielder. Then everton, here we go.

7 appearances with no goals – enough said.

Werder Bremen paid Everton £12 million – just a 11 million loss on this one.

Morgan Schneiderlin – £21 million

He was an excellent player for Southampton, then Man United came calling and it went wrong.

Never really hit the ground running at Man U and during his second season, he wanted to leave because of lack of game time. Who you gonna call – Everton.

He played 73 games for Everton scoring 1 goal, the managerial changes never helped him and long spells out because of this didn’t help either.

Andre Gomes – £22 million

If there is a club dumber than Everton in the last 5 years for transfers its Barcelona. they signed him for a fee of €35 million plus €20 million in add-ons, you read that right.

He then moved to Everton on a season-long loan for €2.25 million and then 22 million. 88 appearances and 1 goal from midfield, not good.

Last season he only played 14 league games

Gylfi Sigurðsson – £40 million

Very good at Swansea and signed by Everton

Odd one this, for the money you would expect more – 136 games and 25 goals is not bad but for a 40 mill attacking midfielder

Some off the field issues recently which I will not go into detail especially if they are true

Alex Iwobi – £28 million

A player who never really se the world alight at Arsenal, albeit in a struggling team which was in a bit of a decline.

Everton then stumped up a fee of an initial £28 million, rising to £34 million with potential add-ons

85 appearances and 4 goals is really not good enough albeit mainly used as a winger, never really see him tear a defence apart or create a host of chances.

Theo Walcott – £20 million

A bit underrated, he was good at Arsenal but this was a team that was slowly declining and other teams were rising up – on his game unplayable.

For everton 77 appearances and 10 goals for a striker is not a great return and he was loaned out annd then signed by Southampton, where it all started
